The Journey Begins

The big move happened. Whether it was a success or not remains to be seen. The many tasks before me include unpacking, cleaning, organizing, and repairing all the damage my late husband did to the house and yard. The giant redwood tree, while slowly recovering from years of neglect in my absence, still looks dreadful. The bee hive remains slumped against the old garden shed. The driveway is still filled with cars.

My daughter seems to be coming around. It appears as if we are mending our damaged relationship. My next goal with her is to teach her what she needs to know to survive in this world on her own. While I am still healthy, I am 60 years old. Realistically, I can last another year, or another 30+ years. With this uncertainty, the task of bolstering her independence feels urgent.

Meanwhile, I have a dream for my home to be a permaculture paradise. We pruned back the garden area, but the reconstruction of the planter beds must wait. I planted a few berry bushes and a pomagranate tree. A new espalier apple tree will come on Monday. The once barren planters in the front yard now sport multiple herbs. While the yard work isn't absolutely essential, it fills my heart with joy. It gives me the the incentive to keep going.
